Jack liked my Decendents T Shirt and I got all giddy like a schoolgirl.
Jeff & I were talking about shows we have been to in our more youthful and vital stages in life. He was reminiscing about seeing such acts as Twisted Sister, Dokken, Stryper and David Lee Roth and probably Winger knowing Jeff (Haha, Stryper... ). I was having memories of Metallica, Bad Religion, Hot Water Music, 311 and AFI (Haha, 311) I was trying my hardest to remember the best show I have ever been to and then I realized that seeing Tenacious D in 1999 topped the list indeed. Jen and I went with Jesse and Shawna up to LA to the Actors Gang . We were living in Oceanside at the time and drove up for the show. The production was pretty awesome, they had actors up on stage running skits around Jack and Kyle adding to each song's strength. Sasquatch was there and took a dump in the form of refried beans on the crowd, Christopher Walken came on stage (impersonator) and we got drunk off the Rocket Sauce they sold in the lobby. After the D rocked our socks off Jack had a special announcement for the crowd. The first (something like) 50 people I want to say who had a donation of 5 bucks to benefit the Actors Gang could go backstage and hang out with the D. The group of us was sitting way up front and in the opposite corner of the exit so we thought for sure we would miss out on that opportunity. Fate was on our side because we ended up being one of the first people in line to go back. There was a young lady there to collect the money from us and Jack was at the entrance to greet all of us. When I was walking up to shake his hand he looked at my shirt and commented about how he liked the Decendents. I froze up, got all giddy like a school girl and the only thing I could think of doing was giving him a stupid Thumbs up...
"Yeah, up on stage, I'm the shit. I'm Zeus, I'm Elvis... but back here, I'm just Jack."
I felt really really awkward and shy. Jack and Kyle were both really nice fellows and had a ton of neat stories to tell. And that is the story of the best show I have ever been to. What's your story?
